Hello,

We are holding our first ever toddler nursing meeting with Allaitement
Québec on monday evening coming up (28 jan).

We have laid out several subjects that might be of interest to the moms,
and will let them choose what they want to talk about most. These
subjects include:

-child-led or mother-led weaning?
-nursing and working (since maternity+parental leave in Canada can now
be 12 mos, this is particularily good for encouraging moms to continue
nursing a toddler; I think it is so much easier to leave a 12-month old
who can eat well than a 6-month old who is just starting out on solids)
-night weaning (or not), or the nights of a nursing toddler
-tricks to avoid nursing in public
-tandem nursing and nursing during pregnancy

I was thinking that while introducing ourselves we might ask the moms
there to say what age they think a child should wean or be weaned, and
let this open up discussion of natural weaning ages. A lot of moms in
Québec don't seem to be ready to hear of weaning at age 7, when most of
them wean by 3 months. I think some will be ready to hear that some
children may wean "older than 2.5 years". However, this is a meeting
where moms are coming specifically cause they've said they want to nurse
"a long time" (and their babies are already upwards of 6-7 mos old), so
I don't think it would really put them off mentioning natural weaning
ages...I think it would perhaps even be important to open their eyes to
such things.

I wanted to ask though, if any of you have interesting ideas on other
subjects or things that should really be mentioned. I am doing this
with another ressource person who is much more experienced than I am
with this, having nursed through 2 pregnancies and also her 4-year old
just self-weaned. She is currently nursing a 22-month old and pregnant
with #4. Since I myself am only nursing my first, at 23 months almost,
I wanted some help from someone who has done more than I have. ;-)

Since this is not of urgent pressing matter, perhaps if you have good
ideas to send to me that you don't think the list would be interested in
hearing, you should maybe send them privately to me:

Thanks in advance!
