I am spitting mad up here. My cousin and his wife have a 3 week old boy. The
Mom has inverted nipples and had a c section due to fetal distress. She paid
for consultations with 2 LCs. Both had her using nipple shields. The first
LC had her feeding her baby ABM from a bottle first, then nursing with the
shields. The second LC told her to nurse first, with the shields, then give
ABM in a bottle. Surprise surprise - the child won't nurse directly from the
breast. The milk is too slow and her milk supply is low.

am I missing something? Why would an LC recommend nipple shields which are
known to cause nipple confusion? Why would an LC recommend using bottles
instead of an SNS?

I am working on my credentials and I just want to be sure I am really
understanding this.

thanks for any ideas!
