As was already pointed out, a heating pad on low applied to the covered 
nipple immediately after nursing is extremely effective.  Let sit for at 
least 5 minutes to keep vasospasm from occurring.

And you need to emphasize to moms that they MUST consistently apply the heat 
after EVERY use of the breast (pumping too) for at least 48 hours straight. 
You must give the tissue a chance to heal by avoiding hypoxia completely.

I have only once used niphedipine...and see vasospasm several times a week. 
Heat works very well.
