Kirsten,

The video, "A Premie Needs His Mother" was made by Dr. Jane Morton at
the Stanford U. Hospital in Palo Alto. It has some wonderful
segments on the gradual process of getting a premie to breastfeeding,
step-by-step. Surely there is good help available to this mom in her
home town. The video is also excellent on skin-to-skin/kangaroo
care. The lactation consultant in the video does a great job
discussing pumping, too. (Probably not needed in your friend's
case) I'd urge this mom to get a copy of the video to watch. It
must be available at the hospital and clinics there in Palo Alto.
I'd encourage her to seek help from the staff depicted in the video,
if she is not getting good support already.
