I am a La Leche League Leader and Lactation Consultant in NYC. The question
on helping a blind woman breastfeed prompts me to add that La Leche League
is one of our primary resources, and many questions on Lactnet could be
answered by subscribing to LLL publications and using the Center for
Breastfeeding Information. Institutions can become Breastfeeding Resource
Centers. Every breastfeeding counselor will find information she/he can
use in New Beginnings, and I think everyone who works with breastfeeding
mothers should be a La Leche League member, or at least know how to use the
resources of LLLI. Along with the basic texts of breastfeeding contact
with LLL is vital to being well informed on any breastfeeding issue: this
is true especially in the US but in other areas as well. Breastfeeding
Abstracts is essential. Internet resources are valuable, but basic
breastfeeding questions are best answered by having all the breastfeeding
texts and by using LLL to the fullest, IMHO.
