I usually recommend one or more of the following:
Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
Nursing Mother's Companion
So That's What They're For!
Dr. Jack's book (don't have the US title here, it's at work)

In comparing the first two, I describe WAB as a "cheerleading"
approach - often giving the information in the form of personal
stories, sometimes with a picture of the mom/baby from the story. I
describe MNC as more of a "recipe book" approach - info given more
as "here's what to expect the first couple weeks, here are possible
concerns, here is how to deal with them". I point out that both
contain excellent information, but that some people prefer one style
and some prefer the other.

STWTF has a much more lighthearted approach (as you can tell from
the title) and might be the first choice for someone with a great
sense of humor.

Dr Jack's book is the newest and I must admit, I haven't read it all
the way through yet. Therefore, I haven't come up with a
characterization of it's style like I have for the others. I do
point out how much he's contributed to the field and how supportive
he is of those the rest of us who work with nursing couples.

Hope this is helpful.
Winnie
