Some may wonder why this discussion is necessary - is it nit-picking? Is it
examining too closely?

In the childbirth arena, many women claim to have had "natural births"
because the baby came out the vagina, as opposed to an incision in the
abdomen. They may have been exposed medications, analgesics, pressure on the
head, all sorts of things that change their body, the flora in the body, and
affected their ability to cope with the outside world.

And why does this matter? Because when these babies come to us, with
whatever issue they are having, and the mother states she had a "natural
birth" it should mean a natural birth. Instead, it means a quest to drag out
information: did you have an epidural? Did you have an IV with antibiotics?
Did you have vacuum extraction? Forceps?

Finding out the definition means better assistance with whatever is
happening!

Best wishes,
Sam Doak
