Hello Everyone,

I have a 7 week postpartum working mom complaining of hot flashes only when she pumps. It will last 20 minutes to an hour. This doesn't happen to her when she breastfeeds. She's using a Medela Pump 'n Style and gradually cranks the suction up during the pumping session to the max. She says she thought this is what she needed to do and isn't sure if milk yield will be the same if she doesn't. I've told her that she needs to pump at the "highest most comfortable setting for her". I realize the "hot flashes" are from the release of oxytocin. Since it doesn't happen with breastfeeding, I questioned her on the fit of her flanges. Thinking maybe she was being overly stimulated from her nipple rubbing slightly against the flange. I've suggested she try pumping with a lower suction setting and she if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any and all imput :)

Linda
