As an RN and LC (hospital based) ....I have found the medical background very
helpful with my work. I did not learn anything in Nsg School regarding
breastfeeding (20 years ago) but, have found it being introduced in several
local college programs. When students have done their clinicals...the
instructor has had me present info to the group. There is still alot of miss
information out there...but, at least there is an interest in learning. I do
believe that a medical background provides a broader basis regarding drugs,
anatomy, physiology, defects, etc.....that help me to better understand,
digest , evaluate and then apply appropriate info regarding emotional as well
as medical outcome in various circumstances.
For me it has been advantageous as well as years of experience in the
maternal/child setting. Sharon Lemon RN, CLE
