I found this out this spring. I suspected retained placenta in a client
with unexplained low milk, and left repeated messages for her OB. Turns
out he was out of town, so I left messages for local midwives, trying for
more info on signs of retained placenta. On OB's return, I left still more
messages for him. When we finally started communicating, and as I heard
back from midwives, it gradually dawned on me that *birth specialists at
any level may be unaware of the relationship between placental fragments
and low milk.* These particular people now have assorted xeroxes, and next
time a fragment question comes up with someone else I'll know to send the
xeroxes right along with my questions! They understandably don't feel any
urgency to respond when they don't know why you're asking.
