Well, here's the rationale I was given for my patient: high fever
increases the permeability of cell walls (whether to bacteria or toxin, I
don't know), therefore increasing risk of illness for baby. Now, this
sounds familiar, but from a long time ago. I don't know if this was given
as a theoretical possibility which has been turned into a rule, or whether
there's some good research material to support it. I have to question
whether the risk to the baby of taking breastmilk from a mom with a high
fever is greater than the risk of withholding the breastmilk.

Has anyone heard of this rationale being used for a protocol anywhere?
