Hi All,

I got a call from a local mom about taking domperidone to increase her
supply for her unusual circumstances. She is tandem nursing and her
youngest (now 3) has a history of severe ongoing allergies that have created
all sorts of problems. However, due to the nursing and her very careful
attention to her diet, he is doing as well as can be expected. She is
pumping to store milk in the event that he weans earlier than she'd like and
so that she can provide him with the nutrition and protection he needs. It
has been a long time since she has done any pumping - she is using a
hospital grade pump and pumping every 3-4 hours.

She is taking 90mg of Dom per day but called me with the following questions
and concerns. I asked her to make a list so I could send this on and get
some good quality opinions.she has an interesting set of circumstances going
on and I just don't know quite where to begin. Mom has been told she is a
rapid metabolizer and tends to have odd side effects with meds. I am
wondering if any of her following comments/question sounds typical for a
'rapid metabolizer' or if they could be reasons to advise mom to stop
Domperidone. Mom is willing to continue for at least the 4-6 wks she read
online it could take to see results, especially if it is helping her toddler
to gain weight (slow gainer).

Please email your thoughts to me privately at

Thank you!

Warmly,

~Always been told I am a 'rapid metabolizer' after surgeries, dental work &
medications which proved to be ineffective, need multiple dosage adjustments
or have side effects.
~Began taking Domperidone to increase supply 15 days ago (from today -
3/14/11).
~I noted bizarre, "off" taste in mouth within 4-6 hrs of 1st dose.
~I began noticing that the small, (compounded) 30 mg capsules felt like they
were "getting stuck going down" after 24 hrs, as well as foods unless chewed
more than thoroughly.
~I am taking 3, 30 mg (allergen free due to food allergies) compounded
capsules for a total of 90 mg daily at about 10am, 4 pm and 10 pm.
~I am feeling more "heartburn" symptoms with citrus and spices, as well as
bloating, drastic loss of appetite and more infrequent bowel movements.
~I feel like the Domperidone is "slowing my bowels down".
~I have lost about 5 lbs and have had a few mild headaches - I don't get
headaches.
~I also noted that my preschooler's stool consistency has greatly improved
(always tended toward loose) and I also suspects his weight gain is
improving.
~I read that a possible side effect on handout from pharmacy was cessation
of menses, but is now experiencing increased menses and began menstruating
again 2 wks after already doing so.
~I am very regular in my cycles and feel certain this is somehow due to the
Domperidone.
~I am on day 15 of Domperidone and have noticed almost no improvement in my
supply when I attempt pumping, though my children tell me there is "more
milk" when they nurse. :-) Is this a function of my body not being
accustomed to the pumping or my kids taking all the extra?
