Regarding documenting enhanced revenue and hospital "popularity," this
is a slippery slope these days in hospitals. Hospitals traditionally
loose money on obstetrics (with per diem reimbursement), but many feel
that it is an important service line because it enhances relationships
in the community, and tends to feed the other, more lucrative service
lines, such as cardiac care, later on. This year, with hospitals
feeling acute financial strain from diminished reimbursements, many
hospitals are even examining if they want to increase OB admissions, or
just maintain the image.

I agree that the safest line to approach is enhanced patient
satisfaction. No doubt from anyone that LCs do that, and of course,
satisfied customers tell their friends and relatives. LCs also promote
OB/GYN satisfaction with hospitals, and hospitals tend to make more
money on gynocological surgeries.

I also agree that a prudent approach is to add the revenue enhancement
of breast pump rentals if you possibly can.

Interesting year this will be in health care.
