Norma's point is well taken about not offending non-BF moms.
Perhaps she has come up with the best term for "formula", namely 'that other
stuff'.  Would it be effective when dealing with a perspective mom to say."
How do you plan to feed your baby, Breastmilk or that other stuff?"  This
avoids giving the explaination that ABM is not about missles, it might be
about a group of Doctors, and the PIMP and CR_P ultranegative acronyms.  Yet
STUFF carries just enough shock value to cause the listener to pause and
think "Now what to they mean other stuff?"  It also leads to a short
pronoucable acronym for those of us in the BF world that we can use in our
conversations with each other ........TOS "That Other Stuff or The Other
Stuff."   One could even add another 'S' create "TOSS" for "That Other
Substitue Stuff."  Stuff is also a good word because it not only creates
distance from "formula" it also creates a separate image than MILK.  I'm sure
most of us would hesitate to call N_tr_m_g_n "milk" if we drank it.  We would
probably call it.....That awful tasting STUFF.

I will hereby conduct my own unscientific and survey of biased LACTNET
participants.  Lets not clutter up LACTNET too much with more and more and
more posts about alternative terms.  Please send me private email about your
favorite term for things other than Breastmilk.  I will compile the results
and post them to LACTNET later this year.  Lets try to be practical and
select the terms that we could use anywhere. (CR_P obvisously would not be
used to a non BFing mom.  Please select your vote for the ONE term you most
prefer and email privatly to me.
