  Sweden might be heading in the same direction. In the 1990's, all  
Swedish maternity wards were declared baby-friendly, but from 2004  
the Swedish BFHI is given up and the reference group dissolved.   
There seems to be no interest from the government to resume the BFHI,  
that's up to the regional councils (?), a lot like the Canadian  
Health Promotion minister Jim Watson states in the article. Also,  
from July 1:st 2007, the Swedish interpretation of the WHO-code is  
seroiusy weakened. Marketing breast milk subsistutes goes on having  
some protection, but it is very uncertain whether for example health  
staff may accept gifts and meals från formula manufacturers.
We really need to discuss this. We had an editorial in Amningsnytt on  
the same theme. Swedish authorities seem to be proud over the bf  
prevalence, but doesn't want to do anything to keep it high. Even  
though exclusive breastfeeding prevalence has decreased since the mid  
90's, very little is being done to re-faciliate breastfeeding in  
Sweden. And those who "fail" to breastfeed begin to hate  
breastfeeding and bf advocates like in the The Daily Mail-article  
that was linked to Lactnet yesterday.
