Go for it.  Alimentum is not non-allergenic--those are the elemental
formulas.  If I remember correctly, Alimentum also contains corn and
coconut, both of which are allergenic.  The mom could be swapping one
allergen for another.  In my non-professional but painful experience,
dairy elimination is never a waste of time.
