Barbara, the descriptions you give for why infants would curl their tongues
while trying to nurse are very persuasive.

However, I thought both Lisa and Esther were talking about babies who suck or
curl their tongues all the time -- both when nursing at when at rest (or not
at rest, but not nursing, as their state may be). (certainly I was, but the
larger number of cases is more interesting, unless you happen to be the mother
:> )

How might these anatomical reasons account for this type of baby also? or
would we look to other causes in these kids?
