A friend and fellow LLLL went up to 12 or more hours on 1 side with her
second child. She had a very abundant production. I was training for the exam
then and had her permission to do a ''training breast assesment''. It was
hardly possible to feel anything, for the moment I touched her breasts with
only the tips of my fingers milk started flowing, we had to have a bath towel
under her.

Another interesting case was shared in the Dutch LC magazine*). The LC was
called by a mom with 8 bouts of mastitis in 4 weeks, a restless baby with
foamy green stools and leaking. Every time she managed the mastitis in 1
breast, the other started. Mom had very large breasts that did not feel or
look engorged. Then the LC had the mom pump (after feeding the baby) both
breasts completely empty (which took about 2 hours and gave 700ml) and then
return to a both breasts at each feed routine (mom fed 1 breast a feed) and
repeat the pumping only when she noticed overfullness. Mom had to pump once
daily at first (150ml) and once in 2 days later on. After 3 months she
decided to wean and successfully used Salvia Officinalis (homeopathic drops
or granulae). The LC hypothesed that the very large milklake of 700ml was
built becauyse the momhad a large storing capacity and leaked a lot from the
non-used breast. So not only the milk the baby drank, but also the leaked
milk was reproduced and in her large breasts mom could store up to 700ml
before feeling oncomfortable and getting problems. By emptying the breasts
completely the milklake was removed and by feeding both breast there was no
''unused breast'' that needed leaking to empty. She did not see her
hypothesis acknowledged in total because themomwas happy pumping once in two
days and want to bother to try reducing the pumping. The LC specificly asked
for opinions of collegues or experiences on this idea.
