The STS files in the drawer are actually 12" of studies. Early on articles are why and more recent articles are how to. Early articles are STS for premies, later ones are STS for term infants (gosh).

Yes, in my talks and conversations on donor milk and how well babies grow, I talk about the need to take kangaroo care seriously as an essential part of NICU care. The original studies in Colombia in the 1980s had moms “kangarooing” essentially 24 hours a day. In the US at least, we have watered that down to a couple of hours a day. That’s not what kangaroo care is about. There are many reasons for this, but we need to think creatively about putting kangaroo care on the treatment agenda.

What are people’s favorite references on kangaroo care?

One thing I remember from Gene Cranston Anderson's writings - early about STS and BFing- is that more mothers were taking the babies home and not abandoning them at the hospital. Breast milk is good for many reasons, but mother's touch and attachment just as important as the milk.
