Jennifer,
It sounds to me like you are doing good on-going assessing with this baby.
But the biggest benefit of a Haberman is that it doesn't overwhelm the baby
- gives a small amount that can't be "gobbled", That doesn't sound like it
will be overly useful here.

This baby would benefit from a visit with a specially trained early
interventionist or occupational therapist. In the US, an assessment of this
baby is available at no cost to the parents from their own (locally-named)
early education services. Ours is called "The Family Infant Toddler
Project". You can call the school district for where the parents live and
tell them what you want. Often the pedis are reluctant to "label this baby
so soon" - but I think that many times IBCLCs are the very first early
interventionists in these unusual feeding situations. And parents can SELF
REFER for this service.

If you call them yourself and explain the situation, they may be able to
give you some tips. Or they may say, "We'd like to see this baby soon."

The therapists will assess the baby - feeds and beyond -- and give lots of
nice "games you can play with your baby" and helpful hints that may help
this baby - and mom! - to fall in love again and get some rest. The parents
are respectfully and kindly treated, for they are doing their babies a big
favor and being good moms by calling.

I have learned a great deal from our local gals - who come to my New Moms
Network quarterly to say hello, teach us games for babies, and cast an
experienced eye on the babies. They have made a real difference in the lives
of families - and these are mostly babies who just need a little tweak.
Beyond that - they are incredible with the little ones who need more help.

Good luck!
Dawn Kersula - up the road from Jennifer in Vermont and delighting in all
this snow!!
