I am intorducing myself on my "maiden" (?!) voyage on Lactnet. I have been
lurking off and on for several years via our WIC coordinator's printout.
Recently, I've been lurking on my own in a Senior Citizen computer class,
which ends at 11 a.m. EST 7/22/97. Until I purchase a computer this fall,
I guess it's back to lurking with the help of my friend.

I am a sometimes Volunteer LC for WIC. I have spent the last 18 months
"learning how to do retirement" after 44 years as a maternal child nurse,
24 in a hospital OB department and 20 in public health. My old excuse is
gone-(no time)! I am still re-learning how to balance my personal
aspirations with my family roles. (My first great-grandchild is due next
month!)

My special interest has been investigation literature on the nipple-areolar
complex: embryological and later development, its microscopic
anatomy and physiology, and a lot of closeup photographic research on
inversion, retraction and other nipple problems. (I have grim personal
memories..)

My clinical experience has provided me insights that I have not seen
expressed in the literature thus far. I've developed several completely
different models for assessment and intervention to help achieve a good
latch and avoid or heal pain and damage. I have a passionate desire to
share some of my professional insights rather than take them to the grave
with me. I realize I need to get serious about writing for publication!
I'm trying to break old habits of procrastination, perfectionism, and fear
of failure (or is it fear of success?) In addition to enjoying Lactnet, I
hope to benefit from your collective feedback and encouragement.

At present I am planning to attend the ILCA convention, and I hope to put
a few more faces with a lot of familiar and unfamiliar names.

Wannabe-Author and Cybersenior,

K. Jean Cotterman RNC, IBCLC
