Dear Lactnet Friends:

Cathy Watson Genna posts, "It's very very important to ask the number. It
should be in the 100's inthe first few weeks, and at least 50 until weaning"

Cathy, I am curious about this because I understood that the breasts take
on autocrine control, making milk on their own and that prolactin levels
dropped to prepregnancy levels. Lactogenesis stage IV.

No one has identified when this shift occurs, My GUESS is that it starts
around the time the baby starts solids. This is my speculation, only.

.Are you saying that prolactin levels remain significant during the entire
lactation, even 5 years?

warmly,
