Abandonment of breastfeeding during the 20th century has been called "The
world's largest experiment without controls", obviously in a 1976
article, Hendricks
RG. Socio-economic and psychological factors in breastfeeding motivation. Bull.
Int. Ped. Assoc. 1976; 6: 37±44

But I also find the expression in a Swedish book from 1973, referring to
formula industry taking over infant feeding the first year, Professor
Vahlquist, told about it while mentioning an 1961 article about declining
breastfeeding in the Western world. for those of you who know Swedish:

Can anyone here please help me trace back "The world's largest experiment
without controls" to its origin?
