Patty,
It sounds like the problem may be the lack of swallowing the baby has been
doing. If the baby is not adequately emptying the breast then the milk
supply will drop. It is interesting how the assumption is always that it is
the mother's milk production that started the problem and not the baby.
Has the Mom tried alternate massage to increase the flow of milk to the baby?
Recently there has been discussion on LN on using SNS or periodontal syringe
to increase flow of milk while baby latched to demonstrate normal swallowing.
Your case now sounds like Mom needs to increase her production but also to
evaluate the baby's ability to remove milk from Mom. Reglan could be used
also herbs; fenugreek with blessed thistle. Make sure the baby is truly
latched correctly and sucking normally.
Good luck.
