>I thought complete or almost complete loss of milk is quite normal in
pregnancy.<
Normal? yes, universal? No I have known many women who have breastfed
through pregnancy and beyond, some of whom continued for a time to
exlusively breastfeed with no apparent ill-effects for the suckling.
This is one of those very individual things, I think. It is wise to avoid
generalisations that can undermine mothers' confidence in their bodies. It
is also wise to teach them how to be absolutely sure their babies are
getting sufficient milk (and this does not involve the use of a scale) and
when they might need to seek help.
