Here in Massachusetts we have a number of pharmacies that will compound
medications to make them available in different forms. The discussion about
babies and toddlers resisting foul tasting meds reminded me of a patient I
sent to one of these pharmacies. She had a toddler with the strength of Atlas
and the cunning of a typically breastfed child and could outwit her mother at
every turn when it came time for medicine. At the compounding pharmacy the
pharmacist had a battery of flavorings, syrups, gel caps, etc and found the
taste and the form best suited for this little guy.

These are the same pharmacies that can compound oxytocin into a nasal spray
for mothers to use with milk ejection problems. I keep a list by the phone of
these wonderful resources.
