What is the goal for the materials produced by the infant formula companies?
Their goal is to make money by selling formula. So they produce materials
designed to convince mothers to stop breastfeeding before one year of age --
so that they will then be able to sell them formula. And they have been
actively promoting the idea that children need formula well beyond one year,
as well. So when you read parenting magazines that include articles that
claim that babies will lose interest in breastfeeding naturally by 6 months,
or 9 months, or whatever, you can bet that this advice is influenced by the
major advertisers/supporters of the magazine -- the formula companies.
