It is possible for women to cycle once or twice and then go into an
amenorrheaic state again while doing a good deal of breastfeeding.  It is
also common for women to have longer time between cycles when first starting
back with the first few cycles after an amenorrheaic state.  See Kippley's
Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing book for a thorough and scientific
explanation.
