Maybe one of the questions to ask in your history is re engorgement -- did
the mom experience severe engorgement at any point? And quantity of milk --
did she always feel like she had plenty, or more than enough; or was she
feeling "at the edge?" I think a positive answer to the former may make
relactation more difficult, as would an "on the edge" answer to the latter.
I never experienced engorgement with any of my kids, and with Timothy, was
"on the edge" with NO milk produced in left breast at all. I do know deep
down in my soul that if I had stopped nursing and tried to relactate, even a
week or two later, it would have been hopeless. But, I don't feel that way
about all women -- I think some can and some can't, and we have to be more
specific in finding out about their lactation history.
