Natalie and Dr Leeper and all,
From what I have read here on lactnet over many years, from Making More Milk book, and from experience with the babies who *do* have insufficient intake -- I do reinforce to moms with "worrisome" breasts (and no prior lactation history) the s/s of sufficient milk/effective fdg and the s/s that indicate true need for supplementation (after bf as "much as you think you possibly can"). And of course I try very hard to get them to make an early f/u appt.

I do think some moms with less than big production capability could do better with very frequent feeding.
I had breast implants (A to C) prior to my 2 babies and did successfully bf them with great wt gains (10 mos and 5-6 yrs, respectively) but I really did have to feed frequently forever ( they requested every 2 hrs literally day and night for much of that first year) and never could pump alot of milk. So I think it takes a willingness and ability to feed quite alot, and keeping baby very close by at all times. I worked part time so that helped too. (I later had the implants removed!).
