Not research based at all but in my personal experience I loved the Symphony not because of anything to do with the fancy phase system but because it is so, so quiet! Now I'm comparing to the Lactina and Whittlestone (which is incredibly noisy!) and don't know about the Ameda pumps because I've never used them but in terms of being mother friendly when you have to pump a lot the quietness is something that helps make it more tolerable to do.
