Dear Pat, A year ago or so I attended a continuing ed program on "GI
Disturbances" taught by a prominent pedie gastro specialist. The gist of his
talk(which as it turned out was subsidised by a formula company) was that
you should take baby off "regular formula" and put him/her on this company's
new "diarrhea formula" during episodes of diarrhea. I finally spoke up and
asked if he felt the need to take a baby off the breast in this situation.
He capitulated that it wasn't necessary to take baby off the breast and at
the end of his talk reiterated that fact. I would suppose that we should
collectively write letters to the editor asking the same question and more
importantly-- why do they focus on non-breastfed children?
