Dear Lactnet Friends,
As a member of the Pennsylvania Breastfeeding Coalition, I would like to hear
from those of you who are members of other coalitions. May I ask some
questions about how you operate?

1. Do the people who attend represent themselves only, or do they represent
their organizations? Or do you have some of each?

2. When someone represents an organization, in what sense do they speak for
their organization? How is that managed? Does the representative carry
questions from the Coalition back to the leadership of their organization,
get them to adopt a position or give an answer, and then bring that message
back to the coalition? If so, how long does it all take?

3. Does your coalition produce position papers? Letters to lawmakers?
Letters to government agencies, e.g. health department, labor department?
Letters to government officials, e.g. governor, insurance commissioner?
Letters to NGOs? Press releases? And if so, how do you decide what your
position is? Do you consult all your member organizations in advance to get
their support for the coalition position or their approval for the letter?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
