Lisa, I'm glad you are there to give this young mom support.  Since it looks
like she's going to bottle feed her baby while she's on the meds, perhaps you
could suggest she put the baby to breast after she has pumped (and after the
baby has been bottle fed).  That way the baby will get comfort from suckling
at the breast and stay bonded to the breast.  Thereby,  we hope, easily and
 happily return to breastfeeding when she goes off the meds.
I think it's important for this mom to know how important breastfeeding is to
her baby, not just for the milk he gets, but also because it represents his
mother's love for him.
Let us know how this situation turns out.
