The (county) Breastfeeding Task Force that I participate is drafting an
informational letter to send to docs, regarding mostly practices used with
WIC clients, and how depo affects the moms that are given the medication
before 6 wks. postpartum.

My personal concern was to include some research showing how depo can be
related to a drop in milk supply, for some moms that take the medication
even at 6 wks. or after. Not sure where to look for such an article?

On another note, there are even some reports that a few moms had been told
that depo could used to dry up their milk.

Also, can anyone explain more about the new SoP regarding contradicting a
care provider. Does this have to do with the IBCLE rules?

Of course this could tie back in with the new SoP and put a LC in a bind as
she may be contradicting the information given to the woman by her care
provider that indicates that the use of Depo Provera and other forms of
contraception have no impact on breastmilk supply. OY!
