"For the last couple of months I have
seen babies from ten days to three months self attach at their mother's
breast. They do the perfect asymmetric latch ALL BY THEMSELVES. And the
looks on mother's(and father's) faces are wonderful to watch."

One of my very favorite parts of Tina Smillie's "Baby-led Breastfeeding: The Mother-Baby Dance" (www.geddesproduction.com and only about $40, I think) is the mother who throws her head back, laughs, and says "WOW".  She then *looks her baby up and down, head to toe,* as if seeing her for the first time.  I think of how seeing their babies as competent people rather than as helpless blobs means they just plain see them totally differently.  And I'll bet there's a carry-over beyond just feeding...
