At the request of the posting LLLL, who is not on LACTNET, I am
forwarding this from TLC. She would welcome private E-mail messages in
response. Thanks. Alice

Subject: bleebs - help please

hello all!

I am counting on your expertise, as I have run out of ideas. I have a
group mom who has been having a terrible time with bleebs - sort of like
nipple blisters, but with milk trapped behind it- almost a plugged
nipple. She is prone to them, and takes lecithin, has eliminated dairy,
most saturated fats, and takes ecinacea, and uses Lansinoh. In case
you've never had one, let me tell you they are very painful. Her son is
22 months old, and is squirmy, which aggravates things. Previously,
when she has had them, she would wean her son to the other side, and
after 3 or 4 days it would clear up. After she had many recurrences,
she weaned to one side only nursing, except for 1 feeding a day. Now
her son won't take the unaffected side, and she is at her wits end. It
looks a bit like a little cauliflower on her nipple at this point. For
financial reasons she hasn't been able to see a lactation consultant.
She has had some breast pain on the affected side which could be more
plugs working their way through. No signs of a yeast infection that she
can tell. She knows about rest, massage, and heat for the breast, and
she knows about a hot compress to the nipple. She is puzzled as to the
cause, and is distressed about what to do - doesn't feel that he is
ready to wean, but also feels she needs to clear this up with a few days
break.

Anyone out there who has any information, I'd really appreciate it. I
am not on lactnet, so if you have read of anything there, or know of
someone on that mailing list who may have any ideas, I'd be very
grateful. TIA for your help.
