Dear Ilene,
Check this baby's breastfeeding technique and suck FAST. The biggest mistake
is assuming that if the baby is at breast enough, he's actually getting milk.
Not necessarily! The most common reason for not gaining is not getting
enough milk, and the most common reason for THAT is either not enough time at
breast, or poor milk transfer. A bad position or suck leaves milk in the
breast instead of getting it into the baby, and that results in suppressed
supply and a hungry baby. I now trust a good pump over a baby with an iffy
suck. Rule # 1 is Feed The Baby - use pumped milk if you have it and ABF if
you don't, and get mom pumping to build supply.
