Hi Kathy
My little girl had lactating breasts for a few weeks after she was born. I
viewed it as a positive sign for the future. When (?) she has her own
children I will be able to tell her this story to reassure her that she will
have an abundant milk supply. Incidentally son had very swollen breasts for
a couple of weeks too. (It might have been close to a month.) It will pass.
(If I was counselling this mother I might suggest (after appropriately
empathic statements about how worrying these things can be) that she take a
leaf out of my friend's book. He is always saying, 'Don't sweat the small
stuff. There are plenty of of other things more worthy of your worry.')
