It's more a question of what is more helpful to you in staying current 
in a rapidly developing field, which is the purpose of having to obtain 
CERPS to recertify. You could attend 2 ILCA conferences in 5 years and 
get enough CERPS to recertify, and learn many new things.  If you 
absolutely cannot afford to travel, then you might need to make compromises.

If the "repeat" workshop is the only choice, you could call the speakers 
and ask how much the material is revised each time it is given, and make 
your decision based on that information.  I do quite a bit of speaking, 
and I revise my talks each time they are given.  There might be very 
minor revision, like the addition of local resources to suit the 
different venue, moderate revision to suit a different audience (more 
postpartum nurses vs. more IBCLCs, for example), and always as there is 
new research published, it is incorporated immediately.  Sometimes new 
research means that a major revision is in order.

Speakers earn CERPS for each talk they give.  I could recertify based on 
the talks I give alone, which would not be ethical, IMHO, because even 
though I am learning a lot as I put the talks together, I am not exposed 
to as many new ideas as when I learn from someone else.

If the "repeat" workshop is an exam review or overview of the field, 
then that's a basic course, and would not be suitable for someone 
already certified, IMHO.  If this is the only type of workshop available 
in your community, perhaps you can join or form a local ILCA afilliate 
and help put on a conference.  NYLCA does 2 a year, one general one day 
conference, and one advanced practice all day conference.  If you have a 
conference committee of at least 4-5 people, it's not as much work, and 
it becomes a lot of fun to work together.  We've had many brilliant 
lactnetters come speak for us, including Linda Smith, Kay Hoover, 
Barbara Wilson Clay, Diane Weissinger, Lisa Marasco, Esther Grunis, and 
Linda Pohl.  I highly recommend each of them.  Don't forget La Leche 
League, many local areas have wonderful conferences with CERP sessions.

conferences or workshops too, like Mississippi's Gold Standard 
conference each spring.
