Can't figure this one out. A mom came to me with cracked, scabbed nipples.
Too painful to nurse. Rents breastpump. Also uses breastshells so nipples
can get air circulation and stay off clothing. Comes back in two days.
Nipples are better but still have a way to go. Notice a pinpoint rash, not on
aerola, but around aerola. Does not itch mother. Shell is bigger in
circumference, so I am thinking it is not the silicone backing of the shell
that is causing the rash. Could it be the pump flange? Mom says she is not
allergic to anything, although admits she developed a mean rash from tape used
on her back for epidural during labor. ALSO, she has been pumping and finger
feeding her baby and he dropped from 9-0 to 8-13.4. Is that common with
finger feeding and pumping? It is just a temporary measure, of course. TIA.
