Education of healthcare providers should be free of professional conflicts
of interest. It is an inherent professional conflict of interest for an
educational event to be *sponsored* by a pharmaceutical company or medical
device manufacturer. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK22942/. You
will probably find that CERPs will not be awarded (as IBLCE takes a very
dim view of commercial interests hosting and influencing education events).

Most educational events do allow for *vendors who exhibit* but the
educational and commercial aspects must be kept separated.

Many conference organizers go a step further and disallow even vendors who
are not meeting their obligations under the International Code of Marketing
of Breast-milk Substitutes. The Code covers four product-types (that are
not pharmaceuticals, nor medical devices). If a company engages in the
predatory marketing practices proscribed by the Code, then the entire
company is not meeting its obligations under the Code.

So -- the examination is not how big or small your potential sponsors may
be. The question is: What do they market? If it is a pharmaceutical,
medical device, bottle, teat, formula, or
baby-food/juice-intended-to-replace-BFg-at-breast, you will always be
"safe" to avoid those sponsors or vendors/advertisers.

If you are unsure whether a company is meeting its obligations under the
Code, you can Just Ask the WHO Code Monitors: IBFAN, ICDC, NABA (in the
US), INFACT Canada, Baby Milk Action (in the UK), etc.

Healthcare providers (and educators) should market good health, not
products.
