Loretta, I have noticed others use Dr. Hale's term L3 category as a basis of
concern for a medication and I wanted to only point out that this is a general
guideline not a definitive "risk when breastfeeding".
L3 Moderately Safe:  There are no controlled studies in breastfeeding women,
however the risk of untoward effects to a breastfed infant is possible; or,
controlled studies show only minimal non-threatening adverse effects.  Drugs
should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the
infant. (from Medications and Mothers' Milk)
I think you are on the right track when you state that this is a 14 month old
who only nurses twice a day.
