Babies who will be fed on powdered infant formula will require 22 kg
for the first 6 months of life, 40 kg for the first year and 63 kg to
replace breastfeeding for the normal (minimum) time - 2 years.  Plus
clean water, clean implements, fuel etc etc etc.  In developing
countries this cost can be a significant percentage of a family's
entire income, which is one the reasons why formula-feeding in
resource-poor areas is so hazardous.
