i think if we're going to have a dialogue about this we should define "attachment parenting"... because i don't agree that a baby can be attached without a parent practicing attachment parenting... attachment theory suggests that infants have healthy attachment with a consistent caregiver who is sensitive and responsive to an infants needs... the co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, constant contact, babywearing etc are just ways to respond to infant's needs not in and of itself "attached parenting"... an example, baby has an intense biological need to be near mother for the first weeks/months/years of its life.. if mother is responding sensitively to that need (even if it means replacing herself with a caregiver that can, e.g. full-time nanny, grandma, etc) then she is practicing "attachment parenting" to some degree... que no?

I agree.
I also think that the degree of attachment varies immensely. Some
babies are naturally my *cuddly* than others. Some parents are more
*touchy feely* than others. Both these factors will affect the degree
of attachment.

And having said all that, in my experience the degree of attachment
usually depends mainly on the feelings and actions of the mother. It
is the baby who calls for help but it is the mother who must answer
those calls. There is nothing more frustrating than to hear a baby
fussing or crying and watching the mother ignore those cries. This
happened to me just the other day. When I gently indicated that her
baby was asking to be picked up out of the bucket, the mother checked
her watch and told me her baby could not possibly be hungry since she
had eaten only an hour ago. Yes, that was a VERY long session :(
