Hi,

I'm hoping to get ideas from your collective experience. I have
permission from the mother to ask if you have ideas for what might be
causing her pain.

The pain is only in her right breast. It is only for the first few
seconds after her baby latches on. Her baby (about 1 month old)
appears to have a good latch and is growing well. The pain is around
the lower-outer edge of her areola -- about 1/4 of the circumference
of the areola. It shoots toward her armpit from the areola when her
breast is relatively full. After she's been nursing for a while, her
breast appears dented (though not sharply) along the line where the
strongest pain happens. It doesn't matter what her baby's orientation
is (football, cradle, side-lying), the dent and the pain stay in the
same place. Her baby's mouth isn't necessarily contacting the area.
Her skin looks normal. The pain is worst when she nurses side-lying on
that side.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
