That's one of my pet peeves, and I'm sure true of most on this list.  I like
your comparison to how we care for our elders. Or even think about how we as
adults like to be treated ourselves!  Do we like our needs to be ignored?
In one of my slide shows on the misconceptions about spoiling I talk about
the issue of sleeping with babies. I have a cartoon of Dennis the Menace.
He is standing in his parents' bedroom, evidently having awakened them in
the middle of the night, probably from a bad dream.  He is saying something
like "how come I have to sleep alone and you two get to sleep together and
you're grown-ups?"
