I was contacted by a friend today about a dilemma she has with her
grandchild. I have her permission to post.
Her grandchild was born about 1 month ago with many lesions and diagnosed
with chicken pox. They treated it as infectious with antiviral and antibiotics.
After a week the lesions cleared and the final diagnosis was impetigo. At home
after D/C the baby started having breathing difficulties and then was
readmitted.
The doctors are saying that the prior to birth something of the mother??
crossed the placenta and the cells started reacting to it. they have been told
that as soon as the cells are replaced the the baby will be ok.
The baby now has lesions in the trachea and the eyes. she has been told she
needs to stop breastfeeding. The antibodies in the breastmilk is causing the
problem. The baby is responding to something in her body/breastmilk.
The diagnosis is Linear IGA Bullous Dematosis a form of autoimmune disorder.
I have tried to research but...
Grandma is so upset and turned to me regarding the need to stop. The family
is frustrated as there doesn't seem to be much information about this
diagnosis. I told her about all the wonderful knowledge on the list and told her
I would see if anyone had any suggestions where this family can turn.
Thank you for any help you can give.
