<< Since they will all "say" breast is best how do we know if a doctor
really "means" it? >>
Sarah,
I talk a bit about this is prenatal bf class. Parents should know that the
above statement is true and doesn't really telll them much. Towards the end
of the class when the parents have good info, I suggest some questions for
the interview process and judge bf-friendliness based on the answers:
1. If I needed a c-sxn and was on abx or had a fever PP, how would that
affect bf my baby?
2. How would you manage jaundice in my bf baby?
3. If I had a sore throat, yeast inf., whatever and I needed abx, how would
you handle that in my 2 mos old?
4. If I had the flu and called you, what would be your recommendation re bf?
5. If I had mastitis, what would you recommend re bf my baby?
You get the idea of the kinds of questions to ask. Slow wt gain is another
issue - the answers are really telling.
