Jackie,

If he's growing in length and meeting developmental milestones, I'd suggest
getting a second opinion from someone who has a more balanced perspective.
Since when is fatness a good thing? And yes, illness can interfere with
growth as the child is recovering.

My 3rd child stopped growing in length at about 12 months when we moved from
south Texas (San Antonio) to a northern cold city (Ottawa), but continued to
gain weight and meet developmental milestones. (He didn't change shoe sizes
in over a year.) They tried to hang a FTT diagnosis on him until I pointed
out that only his linear growth was dropping off the curves, nothing else,
and I'm short (5'2"). Turns out my brother followed a similar pattern. My
son is now an adult, 5'6" tall, and quite normal.

Three of my friends who gave birth around the same time in San Antonio and
moved to northern, colder cities (Boston, Berlin) when their children were
about a year old experienced the same thing with those children.

In my opinion, brain growth and disease resistance counts for a LOT,
especially in an allergic child.

Your milk is PERFECT for your son. He's nursing a lot for a good reason,
even if we don't know what that reason is. I encourage you to trust your
instincts. Mothers are usually RIGHT.
